Tales of the MoonNight by M. Abimbola Mosobalaje

Tales of the MoonNight,

Bright up in the sky,
Lit with full bloom and gloom
Shadows barely had a place to hide
For though; it was night
Yet it was the Moon’s night.

Children around an elder,
‘Baba speak those words of wisdom’
We would say with sheer keen
Into the night we quiet
As the words, Baba brew.

Stories embedded with lessons;
Baba teaches with carefulness.
Wisdom and morals
Into the kids they diffuse
For lessons float
On the wings of obscurity

We enjoyed the times
When with our backs bare
And our bums covered with briefs
Sprawled on the mat under iroko
We would listen to the lyrics
From the elder’s seasoned tongue:
Baba ewe (father to kids)

They were moonlight tales
Courtesy of the Night,
Served on the Moon’s table
MoonNight Feasts
Whose memories
Remain forever emblazoned
Upon our table minds.
