The Night Adeoye Abdulrasheed Adedayo

THE NIGHT

Tell me about the night
When heads round the atupa
Sitting alone in the breeze
And dead sail in the living tongue
With nourishing taste of hearing

Tell me about the night
When ekuru and Eko is my supper
And mama sing me koronto as lullaby
When waiting for me to close my eyes
Ijapa’s tale sail on the ocean of my mind

Tell me about the night
When Papa will tell the tale
How the kings make sit to the throne

Tell me about the night
When moon smile at us
When breast are busy pounding iyan
And muscular men are busy Ayo

Tell about the night
When my fear was drowned
And Amity is our deity
Those days were graved
Like our ancestors were silent
