Poems by Oni Tomiwa Olanrewaju

These are two wonderful poems written by Oni Tomiwa Olanrewaju titled Heartquake and Iku (Death)

What turns a man into a cloud of bitterness?
Rain of pain ricocheting off my head
Splitting into two bowls
Like reflection of sun on broken glass.
I turned a sea of silent whispers,
A wind with no course.
I promised mother i wouldn’t cry
When the harshness of life beats me,
But the quakes of the heart
Brings water from my own well.

Elders bow their
Grey haired heads.
Staring at silence, in
The reddened soil. unmasked.

The young raise
Their sonorous voices,
Wailing. The strongest jaguar
Is gone, with the seed of the clan.
