Unveiling The Hypocrisy Swept Under The Rug Of Religion; An Expository Essay On The Attainment Of Mental Freedom

At times I do wish I was born a freethinker, like everyone else could be born that way because to say but the truth, religion has done more harm than good to the human race.

One major thing religion has offered is a grave sense of difference; as a Christan you cannot marry a Muslim because your pastor said he’s an unbeliever and he cannot marry you either because the Quran or perhaps his cleric’s translations against it. Total bullshit.

Who the hell is not a believer? Even atheists believe in something: the nonexistence of God. Somehow, we all believe in something and that makes us all believers. If Jesus is the way and the truth, then all Buddhists, Muslims, traditional worshippers, atheists, and every other person that doesn’t worship Christ already have a one way ticket to hell. Is that it? Even in this Christianity, there are Catholics, white garment churches, Jehovah witness, Pentecostal and so on with virtually different doctrines and varying imageries of Christ.

Another gift that has been bestowed on every victim of religion is mental slavery. I am not into the debate of tithe but every Sunday, the so called men of God bill their congregations into different kind of offerings, donations, partnerships, seeds and so on that at the end of the day, the worshippers won’t be able to account for anything.

When I was a kid, our church then had the offering box outside the auditorium. You drop money at will. No obligations. No one to notice if you do or you don’t. But here, now, the best time of Sunday services is offering time. The sermon that precedes it, the way the pastor specially prays for tithers makes the whole thing look like an advanced business strategy.

Besides, believers don’t think. We ignore the natural and dogmatically follow the cues of supernatural. The success of countries like America isn’t as a result of the “God bless America” the citizens chant about. It’s as a result of every man taking responsibility for his environment. My grandmother prayed for Nigeria till she died, my mother is doing the same, still, nothing has surfaced.

Spend everyday thanking God for the gift of life ( meanwhile, life is not a gift- it’s not yours) and neglect the purpose of your existence. One day, you will still die and then you’ll realise you have been foolish all through; you’ll realise nothing else has ever bored God like you and your futility.

If you believe in God, understand his being and don’t let religion drive you away from him. Be free.
