FWGE: Three poems by Oyekunle Ifeoluwa Peter

FANTASY

Let the water flowing down your thighs

quench the fire burning in my mind

till I’m lost in between my thoughts

and find solace hitting on your curves.

Let’s get drowned in rivers of tongues

holding ourselves in between the thrust

till your legs become filled with tears

and I’m buried in between the hairs.

WHEN WE WALK DOWN THE ALTAR

When I walk you down the aisle

and tears gently lace your cheeks.

Tears of joy from your tender eyes

that sweep me off my feet.

When I lead you to the altar

and we become joined as one,

Will you help me to daily grow

or make our home a hell?

When the whole church whisper with joy

our love that burns with flames

and parents start to ask their sons

when they would do the same.

When I lead you to the altar

and we become joined as one,

Will our love become a fluorescent

that gives an afterglow?

When the pastors mutter with tears

“Your love inspires us,

your love would stand the test of years

and overcome all odds.”

When I walk you down the altar

and we become joined as one,

Will you turn my back to my God

or be my driving force?

When life challenges all arise

and things are going wrong.

Will you become a beast that roar

or a saint with calming songs?

Will you renounce that binding vows

“for better and for worse?”

Will you become a human thorn

that pierce my heart to death?

WILL YOU TAKE ME BACK IN TIME?

Will you take me back in time

and tell me how we watched the tides,

how you would blush and smile,

and stare into my eyes?

Will you tell me about the tales

of how we survived each day,

how we were both in pain,

but the love didn’t fail?

Will you take me back in time

that we might feel it twice,

how you would hold my hands

and we both watched the stars?

Will you take me back in time

and tell me about those nights,

how I would pull your tie

and sit close by your side?

Will you take me back in time

and whisper it again

how you came into my life

and absorbed my deepest pain?
